| Job Description: |
The Nurse Manager is responsible for providing leadership with regard to planning, organizing, and directing functions that ensure the effective operation of the facilities medical department and staff. This position also works in conjunction with the facilities leadership team in developing plans and policies / procedures in order to meet the objectives of providing quality care for all clients while complying with state and federal regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Supervises medical staff to ensure appropriate treatment is being provided to clients and that all components of the nursing process are effectively applied.
Routinely communicates with and makes appropriate referrals to the contracted physician(s) and other medical agencies or practitioners.
Ensures medical staff promptly respond to all medical emergencies and works "on-call" shifts to provide emergency assistance as needed.
Oversees medical staff’s administration of physician prescribed and non-prescribed medications and treatment to residents.
Controls and maintains adequate inventory of drugs, medical supplies and equipment.
Ensures all medical documentation, medical history, and file on each client is accurate, complete and abides by HIPAA compliance rules and other federal or state regulations.
Develops and maintains policies and procedures in accordance with all applicable state, federal, local, licensing standards, and regulatory agencies.
Attends senior management staff meetings and communicates all pertinent client related medical information to program/facility staff members per HIPPA related rules and regulations.
Maintains compliance with company exposure plan to include OSHA, bloodbourne pathogens, and etc.
Assists in the development and implementation of nursing related performance improvement activities and provides training to medical staff members regarding first aid, universal precautions, medication side effects, and other appropriate topics.
Assists with the hiring process for additional medical staff, evaluates staff performance, develops measurable objectives for necessary improvements and in collaboration with Human Resources implements appropriate corrective action when necessary.
Promotes good health habits, hygiene, and nutrition with all clients.
Supports the Cornell Abraxas’ philosophy and mission and promotes the Seven Key Principles of care.
Performs other duties as required.
Education and/or Experience:
Licensed registered nurse to practice in the appropriate State by the board in which the program/facility resides.
Minimum of three years of management level experience.
Experience in the juvenile field a plus. |
